Established over 40 years ago by Sheila Simpson, the business first opened its doors on Kirkgate, quickly earning a reputation for quality footwear and exceptional personal service. In 1991, the shop made its move to its current North Street premises, officially opening there on 10th October – a location that has since become familiar to generations of loyal customers.
Today, Ladies World remains firmly rooted in family values, now under the stewardship of the second generation: Adrian Simpson, Debbie Simpson, and Anne Whiles. Their commitment to maintaining the shop’s original ethos – combining style, comfort, and attentive customer care – has ensured its continued success in an increasingly competitive retail landscape.
What sets Ladies World apart is not just its longevity, but its carefully curated range of footwear, handbags, and gifts for both men and women. For ladies, the store stocks trusted and stylish brands such as Gabor, Marco Tozzi, Caprice, Pikolinos, Modella, Cipriata, and Mod Comfys. With sizes ranging from 3 to 8, including selected half sizes, the focus is always on ensuring a comfortable, well-fitted shoe without compromising on design.
Men are equally well catered for, with premium and practical options from brands such as Loake, iMac, Chatham, Roamers, and Pikolinos. Standard sizes run from 6 to 12, with a limited selection also available in sizes 13 and 14 – something not always easy to find on the high street.
